Issues
It has been noted by some that 70% of all building problems are related to roofing system failures. Whether that means moisture due to leaks from product failures or poor installation, roofing systems are a major factor in good overall building performance. Roofing systems are also becoming factors in other areas besides moisture and thermal protection, as we understand their impact on the climate, both in heat and water. Although our region is not so drastically affected by the "heat island" effect, we are becoming more aware of the impact hard, impervious surfaces have on our water quality and quantity. Roofing systems have the potential to significantly improve our control of stormwater and may eventually be part of comprehensive water treatment systems right on site. To date, however, most building owners are more concerned with preventing leaks, improving energy efficiency and reducing replacement costs.
